About Our Speaker

Dr. Walker is Professor of Pharmacodynamics and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Temple University School of Pharmacy. She maintains secondary appointments in the Department of Pharmacology and in the Center for Substance Abuse Research in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Walker received her bachelor's degree in Psychology (Rutgers University), master's and doctoral degrees in Biopsychology (University of Michigan), and performed postdoctoral or sabbatical research at Wayne State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Columbia University.

For the past 30 years, her research program has been federally-supported and she sits on various behavioral neuroscience review committees for the NIH. Dr. Walker’s contributions to the field of psychopharmacology have centered on the application of the quantitative principles of receptor theory to opioid, serotonin, and cannabinoid behavioral pharmacology using various preclinical models in the fields of drug abuse, pain, obesity, and cognition. She has trained over 50 high school, undergraduate, professional, graduate and postdoctoral students in her laboratory and published numerous peer-reviewed research articles.
Dr. Walker is the current treasurer of the Philadelphia Chapter for the Society for Neurosciences and a Past-President of the American Psychological Association’s Division of Psychopharmacology and Substance Abuse. She has also served on the Advisory Board for the World Health Organization’s Expert Committee on Drug Dependence and regularly evaluates novel psychoactive substances for the Drug Enforcement Agency and the NIH.
